Leysin

Les Mosses - la lecherette

SEASON DATES: ☀️2021 SUMMER SEASON: Zermatt installations are open all year ⎜⛄️ 2021/2022 WINTER SEASON: Zermatt installations are open all year

Leysin is a charming, medium-sized Swiss resort that is often overlooked by many tourists from abroad. Located on a sunny, south-facing ledge overlooking the Rhone Valley, the Swiss and French Alps, and just a short drive from Montreux on Lake Geneva.

Leysin first came to fame in the late 19th century with the arrival of road and railway connections and the realisation that its excellent climate was ideal for treating people suffering from tuberculosis. After many years of prosperity, the discovery of efficient antibiotics at the end of WWII caused the village to fall into relative decline for a few decades.

Today, Leysin’s architecture, which mixes Alpine village buildings and the old sanatoriums, makes it quite a unique place. It is a centre of educational excellence, home to institutions such as SHMS (Swiss Hotel Management School), LAS (Leysin American School) and Kumon Academy of Switzerland (Japanese high school).

One of Leysin’s flagship activities is Le Kuklos revolving restaurant, located at the top of the Berneuse mountain, reached by the gondola. The restaurant completes one turn every hour and a half, taking diners on a breathtaking tour of the Alps while enjoying a delicious meal.

It is also worth noting that prices in Leysin are quite low by Swiss standards. Your Swiss franc will go that bit further here.
